Cognitive and neuropsychological assessment

A cognitive assessment looks at your child's intellectual ability and learning profile, building a clear picture of their strengths and any areas where they may need additional support.

A neuropsychological assessment offers a broader and more detailed picture. Alongside intellectual ability, it looks at other aspects of cognitive functioning such as memory, attention and processing speed.

Both are carried out face to face at my consulting rooms in Bristol, and both often include the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fifth Edition (WISC-V) or the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV).

Cognitive assessment typically involves:

  • Assessment of emotional well being with child/young person and parents - approximately one hour (usually online with parents and face to face with child/young person)

  • Cognitive assessment with child/young person – approximately one and a half hours face to face

  • Developmental history

  • School liaison

A feedback session (usually online) and an assessment report and recommendations are included in the assessment fee. Fee for cognitive assessment is £650.

Neuropsychological assessment typically involves:

  • Assessment of emotional well being with child/young person and parents - approximately one hour (usually online with parents and face to face with child/young person)

  • Neuropsychological assessment with child/young person which often will include cognitive assessment – approximately two and a half hours face to face

  • Developmental history

  • School liaison

A feedback session (usually online) and an assessment report and recommendations are included in the assessment fee. Fee for neuropsychological assessment is £900.
